Port Hedland
Tony Hewitt

From the moment I looked out the window of the plane over the Pilbara, I was reminded of one thing... RED! The colour that seems to infiltrate everything in this region. While every colour imaginable is present in this amazing landscape, it is the colour red that seems to have taken up residence in so many corners of the Pilbara. This is an image from the BHP Billiton Iron Ore site in Port Hedland. An innocuous bin with ore, dirt and water, electrical wiring, piping and the wall... all tainted by the reach of the red.

Red that had travelled from who knows where in this vast region. As a graphic piece I was drawn to capture this image immediately as we alighted from our vehicle at the first stop on our tour of the site.
