Port Hedland, the Port
Mags Webster
Writing

We are out on the harbour at Port Hedland. Getting dark. We're back in the gorges but this time the cliff walls are the towering hulls of the bulk carriers, their anchors angled like gargoyles off a cathedral. They are the icebergs of the cargo industry. When fully loaded with close on 200,000 tonnes of ore, most of their hulk lies below the surface.
